O Terramoto de 1755

Deve ter sido mesmo impressionante!
Uma catástrofe natural tal como temos assisitido ultimamente em tantos locais do mundo... mas só que nesta vez foi na nossa cidade!
 
O Terramoto de 1755 como ficou conhecido, aconteceu no dia 1 de Novembro de 1755 às 9h20m da manhã, resultando na quase destruição da cidade de Lisboa e de grande parte do litoral do Algarve. O sismo foi seguido de um tsunami que se crê terá atingido a altura de 20 metros e múltiplos incêndios, tendo feito mais de 100 mil vítimas mortais. Foi um dos mais mortíferos terramotos da história. Os geólogos modernos estimam que o sismo de 1755 atingiu 9 graus na escala Richter.

PORTUGUESE FEMALE POWER On 20 May 2006 we had the pleasure of spending 48 hours in Portugal adjudicating an attempt on the Guinness World Record for the Largest Human National Flag. The record to beat was set in Scotland earlier this year when 13,254 fans formed the Saltire, the Scottish national flag, at a Scotland v France Six-Nations game at Murrayfield Rugby Club. Held at Lisbon's national stadium, the event was organized by a company called Realizar who had plenty of experience having organized seven other successful Guinness World Records attempts. These include the Largest Hockey Stick, a staggering 56 ft 7 in ( 17.25 m) long, the Largest Human Logo made up of 34,000 people (part of Portugal's successful bid to host the Euro 2004 soccer championships) and the Largest Football with a whopping diameter of 19 ft 10 in (6.06 m)!
