Europeus de uma outra cor: Por que são portugueses os goeses

O presente artigo surge em resposta ao comentário de Sir Andrew Green sobre o alegado uso indevido da cidadania portuguesa por parte de cidadãos indianos de origem goesa, que, segundo os jornais Daily Star e Daily Mail, apenas imigram para a Grã-Bretanha por razões oportunistas. O ponto de vista expresso por Green há meses atrás reflete as opiniões xenófobas dominantes a propósito dos direitos dos imigrantes que demandam a Europa; é, por isso, de esperar que o contraponto que aqui ora se oferece possa contrariar tal preconceito, que seguramente não deixará de continuar a manifestar-se.

PORTUGUESE FEMALE POWER On 20 May 2006 we had the pleasure of spending 48 hours in Portugal adjudicating an attempt on the Guinness World Record for the Largest Human National Flag. The record to beat was set in Scotland earlier this year when 13,254 fans formed the Saltire, the Scottish national flag, at a Scotland v France Six-Nations game at Murrayfield Rugby Club. Held at Lisbon's national stadium, the event was organized by a company called Realizar who had plenty of experience having organized seven other successful Guinness World Records attempts. These include the Largest Hockey Stick, a staggering 56 ft 7 in ( 17.25 m) long, the Largest Human Logo made up of 34,000 people (part of Portugal's successful bid to host the Euro 2004 soccer championships) and the Largest Football with a whopping diameter of 19 ft 10 in (6.06 m)!
