O telescópio é um instrumento que permite estender a capacidade dos olhos humanos de observar e mensurar objetos longínquos. Pois, permite ampliar a capacidade de enxergar longe, como seu nome indica [Do Grego "Tele" = Longe + Scopio = Observar], através da coleta da luz dos objetos distantes (Celestes ou não), da focalização dos raios de luz coletados em uma imagem óptica real e sua ampliação geométrica.

PORTUGUESE FEMALE POWER On 20 May 2006 we had the pleasure of spending 48 hours in Portugal adjudicating an attempt on the Guinness World Record for the Largest Human National Flag. The record to beat was set in Scotland earlier this year when 13,254 fans formed the Saltire, the Scottish national flag, at a Scotland v France Six-Nations game at Murrayfield Rugby Club. Held at Lisbon's national stadium, the event was organized by a company called Realizar who had plenty of experience having organized seven other successful Guinness World Records attempts. These include the Largest Hockey Stick, a staggering 56 ft 7 in ( 17.25 m) long, the Largest Human Logo made up of 34,000 people (part of Portugal's successful bid to host the Euro 2004 soccer championships) and the Largest Football with a whopping diameter of 19 ft 10 in (6.06 m)!
