Dia do Trabalhador em Portugal

1º de Maio na cidade do Porto

Em Portugal, só a partir de Maio de 1974 (o ano da revolução do 25 de Abril) é que se voltou a comemorar livremente o Primeiro de Maio e este passou a ser feriado. Durante a ditadura do Estado Novo, a comemoração deste dia era reprimida pela polícia.

O Dia Mundial dos Trabalhadores é comemorado por todo o país, sobretudo com manifestações, comícios e festas de carácter reivindicativo, promovidas pela central sindical CGTP-IN (Confederação Geral dos Trabalhadores Portugueses - Intersindical) nas principais cidades de Lisboa e Porto, assim como pela central sindical UGT (União Geral dos Trabalhadores).

No Algarve, assim como na Madeira e Açores é costume a população fazer piqueniques e são organizadas algumas festas nas regiões..

Portugal no Guiness com a maior bandeira humana...

PORTUGUESE FEMALE POWER On 20 May 2006 we had the pleasure of spending 48 hours in Portugal adjudicating an attempt on the Guinness World Record for the Largest Human National Flag. The record to beat was set in Scotland earlier this year when 13,254 fans formed the Saltire, the Scottish national flag, at a Scotland v France Six-Nations game at Murrayfield Rugby Club. Held at Lisbon's national stadium, the event was organized by a company called Realizar who had plenty of experience having organized seven other successful Guinness World Records attempts. These include the Largest Hockey Stick, a staggering 56 ft 7 in ( 17.25 m) long, the Largest Human Logo made up of 34,000 people (part of Portugal's successful bid to host the Euro 2004 soccer championships) and the Largest Football with a whopping diameter of 19 ft 10 in (6.06 m)!
