O Convento dos Cardaes

O edifício do século XVII é uma jóia na cidade, uma peça única. Sobreviveu ao terramoto de 1755 e é por isso uma das poucas estruturas pré-pombalinas que hoje existem. Guarda em si um significativo acervo de artes sacra e decorativas, conservado ao longo dos séculos por irmãs dedicadas à devoção. Mas não há nada que dê mais alegria a este convento do que a obra iniciada no século XIX e que ainda hoje se mantém viva: o acolhimento de pessoas portadoras de multideficiência grave, incluindo cegueira, que aqui têm a sua casa, a sua família.

Portugal no Guiness com a maior bandeira humana...

PORTUGUESE FEMALE POWER On 20 May 2006 we had the pleasure of spending 48 hours in Portugal adjudicating an attempt on the Guinness World Record for the Largest Human National Flag. The record to beat was set in Scotland earlier this year when 13,254 fans formed the Saltire, the Scottish national flag, at a Scotland v France Six-Nations game at Murrayfield Rugby Club. Held at Lisbon's national stadium, the event was organized by a company called Realizar who had plenty of experience having organized seven other successful Guinness World Records attempts. These include the Largest Hockey Stick, a staggering 56 ft 7 in ( 17.25 m) long, the Largest Human Logo made up of 34,000 people (part of Portugal's successful bid to host the Euro 2004 soccer championships) and the Largest Football with a whopping diameter of 19 ft 10 in (6.06 m)!
